At the end of our community monitoring visits, we report back to those we engaged with about what we heard. We call these documents a share back. We provide a share back to each of the groups we met with:
We use a thorough process to analyse all of our engagements. Through this process we identify the key themes and insights that are presented in the share back. We use an agreed list of terms to describe how many people told us something. For example, when we write “many caregivers” it means that more than half of the caregivers we heard from told us they felt that way. You can find out more about our analysis process on the What we do page.
A regional summary is produced alongside the community share back. This includes data comparing outcomes for tamariki and rangatahi in the region with those across New Zealand. The data helps professionals see where their community is doing well, and where it might need to focus more effort.
You can read the community share back and the regional summary for each of our monitoring visits on this page.
Our share backs are not one of the reports we publish under the Oversight of Oranga Tamariki System Act. The share backs are a summary of the engagements from each region, analysed and grouped into themes. The share backs reflect what we heard from people about their experiences. If professionals we heard from misunderstand a policy or initiative, it is their view that will be reflected in the share back. If we hear conflicting views, we include both. Share backs are not reviewed by agencies we mention – such as Oranga Tamariki, NZ Police, or the Ministries of Health or Education.
